The DS1VM2 multiplexes/demultiplexes an STS-1 on the OMM (28 VT1.5-mapped
DS1 circuits) to/from 28 rear-panel DS1 facilities. The DS1VM2 provides framing for the DS1s.
The following features are supported on the DS1VM2:
- STS-1 path protection, path termination, performance monitoring, alarm surveillance, and provisioning
- Supports AMI and B8ZS encoding
- Analog receiver automatically equalizes
- Monitors DS1 for LCVs, LOS, LOF, AIS, CRC-6, RAI, and FE
- Supports in-band and out-of-band controlled loopbacks
- Timing derived from the OMM
- Can provide system timing to the chassis (OMM)
- Supports ESF, SF, SCC96, and unframed framing formats
- Auto frame format sensing
- Requires a fan assembly
- Operates in any chassis, from any MS slot designated for DS1 service.
For redundant operation, the slot pairs are as follows:

- SMX chassis: slots 3&4
- LMX chassis: slots 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8, 9&10, 11&12, 13&14, 15&16, 17&18, 19&20, 21&22, and 23&24
